in Painting

Have you recently bought that BMW you had longed for? If so, it must be the apple of your eye. Sadly many people who own expensive cars are skeptical about taking their cars out of the garage because they fear damaging it. But never forget that a car is bought with the purpose of driving and it’s not very wise you keep it locked in your garage. If your BMW does get damaged, you can get the help of an imported car service center. These service centers efficiently restore your beloved car to its previous condition. When your car’s rims need repairing, this article can surely help you.

Requirements and Set Up

To repair the rims of your BMW, you will first need to get lacquer products and paints that match the BMW factory alloys. You will also need to buy high-gloss clear lacquer and the silver spray paint for the wheels. Almost every imported auto service carries these products. You will need the wheel lock to unscrew the lug nuts on the tires. You can find the wheel lock in the utility compartment of your BMW. Use a jack stand to raise you car and, using the wheel lock, loosen the lug nuts and remove the tires. Put the tires aside during the rim cleaning process and pour paint thinner on the rims. The grease, grime and brake dust should be removed from the surface with a soft cloth. Let the paint thinner dry.

Filling and Sanding

After the paint thinner dries, locate the places on the rim that have been chipped. You will need to apply auto body filler on the damaged parts. The body filler will take about 15 minutes to dry. The next crucial step is to sand down the auto body filler. Start with 100-grit sandpaper. Once that wears out, use 200 grit sandpaper, and finally, a very fine 400 grit paper. Sand until the rim surface becomes even. Use water and a clean cloth to remove the sanded dust from rim and let it dry.

Final Painting

Place painter’s tape around the rim, between the rim and tire crevice, so that the tires are protected from rim paint. Keeping only the rims exposed, tape newspaper around the tire. Spray three coats of silver wheel paint on the rim areas where you had applied auto fill. Once it dries out, apply the high gloss clear lacquer. Repeat the process three times at 30 to 40 minute intervals. Remove the tape and newspapers, and then remount the wheels. Your BMW rim repair is complete.
